About Lurous ProductionsLurous Productions is dedicated to the creation of web-based software development. We also study non web-based development. HistoryLurous Productions began as Auburnflame Games. Auburnflame Games was founded in 2004 and it became Lurous Productions in 2008. After creating Voided Alliance, Auburnflame Games released the PHP code as open source. The game itself was only marginally successful; however, it became much more successful as an open source game. After Voided Alliance, Auburnflame Games experimented with another PHP game named Castles of Astora in late 2006. It was not very successful. After another 3 years of working with the Voided Alliance source, Auburnflame Games became Lurous Productions. Since then, we released the final version of Voided Alliance and stopped supporting it. Who's Involved?Eric Christian is the founder, graphics artist, 3d artist, programmer, webmaster, sound designer, world designer, writer and think tank for Lurous Productions. Eric created Auburnflame Games in 2004 and runs Lurous Productions today. Joshua Christian is a writer and think tank for Lurous Productions. River B is a fellow developer for a twin development group, Apakoh. Current ProjectsOur current projects include: Xeno 4 (formerly known as Project: Ant) and Project: Rune. We have a few canceled projects, they are: Project: Sand, Espresso SDK, and Asphodel♯ (Asphodel Sharp). About Xeno 4Xeno 4 is an Online Space Roleplaying Game built with Flash. Some of the features we plan to create in the game include: player-owned enterprises, player-owned systems, government elections, lawmaking and crafting. Players control their ship by using the keyboard and to get from one system to another, they go through a Conduit (colloquially a WAMI). There are, at the moment, more than 70,000 systems in Xeno 4. The rationale behind the massive game area is space is, and ought to be, mostly empty. As the last great area of expansion, the beauty of space is accented by the infiniteness of its bounds. As such, Xeno 4 does the best it can by creating a world so large that it would be infeasible to inhabit all of it. Xeno 4 exists because there is too much emphasis on linear browser based games. Just because a game is based within a browser should not mean that it has to be small, linear or boring. One can achieve something dynamic and interesting within an environment such as a browser. Xeno 4 is an RPG based in space. Like all the games we work on, it has a strong focus on storyline. You can find the bulk of the storyline on our blog if you are interested. About Project: RuneProject: Rune fills the spot where Espresso SDK once was. It represents our 3D, and more ambitious, project. Project: Rune is a synthesis of parts of our Urn of Omacatl storyline and a new one. It has a heavy emphasis on crafting rather than fighting. More information will be released later. What Happened to Project: Sand?Firstly, Project: Sand was Lurous Productions first real project. It represented a virtual reality project that we had. Initially, it was the precursor to Espresso SDK. The theory was that it would let a person create and build their own world while scripting it with LUA. However, the idea really never could get any steam going and we eventually dropped it. What Happened to Espresso SDK?Espresso SDK was the project that was created from the remains of Project: Sand. It was going to be a game framework based around OGRE. However, there's a lot of Game Development Engines for OGRE and the world didn't need another one. We canceled this because it was not necessary to waste time on it. What Happened to Asphodel♯ (or Asphodel Sharp)?Asphodel♯ (Asphodel Sharp) was a game "engine" based as a modern remake of the Mirage Source (for VB6.) However, we found that creating a game engine for a vanishing game type was not a smart move. In order to allocate time for more relevant projects, we canceled this project. |
